About the Author
E. K. Donaldson was born on November first, 1997. When she was younger, she loved to use her imagination. She always tried to write her adventures down, but could never finish them. In eighth grade she started writing, The Beginning as a play. It quickly turned into a movie and finally a book. Encouraged by her English teachers and parents, she finished and published it. It is the first book in her series Shadows and the first of hopefully many other novels to come.
That is my bio in the first book, but here is some more information on me that is more relevant to the series. I am from Grove City, Pennsylvania (the main setting for my book). Originally, the characters were based off of my friends, however over time they completely changed and no longer resemble my friends. The only character that is remotely similar to the original person they were based off of is Mary Anne Butler. Ashton Henry Forester is an exception to ever being like someone I know. He was never originally based off any friend.

I love foreshadowing and I do throw an enormous amount of it into this series. Most of it is subtle and you might not even realize it was foreshadowing until it is pointed out to you or later in the series when it is made clear.
Also, I see now that it is a becoming of age novel. In each book, the characters are at different stages in growing up: middle school, high school, young adulthood, and adulthood. The characters face various obstacles and challenges as they try to figure out what they are, who they are, what do they believe in, and who do they love. As they overcome each obstacle they find a sense of who they are altogether and what they want in life.
